Private sunset yacht cruise in Palma

A private sunset yacht cruise in Palma catches the island at its gentlest. The day's breeze eases, the bay often settles, and the city's sandstone turns gold before the lights come on along the waterfront. It is a short, unhurried evening at sea aboard a luxury yacht, with your own captain, your own guests and a route timed to the light.

Sunset cruise
Overview

Depending on where the yacht is based, the evening can start from Palma, Puerto Portals or Port Adriano, and many routes stay within the Bay of Palma. Heading west from Palma you pass Bellver Castle, the circular Gothic fortress built for King Jaume II in the early 14th century, then Marivent at Cala Major, the Spanish royal family's summer residence, and the small islets that give Illetes its name. At the bay's western point, the lighthouse on Cap de Cala Figuera, first lit in 1860, takes over as dusk falls.

Timing shapes everything. In summer the embat, the sea breeze that builds across the bay from late morning, usually eases towards evening, which often means calmer water for a swim from the stern. The point where the sun meets the horizon shifts through the year, so your captain chooses the anchorage, on sand or an authorised buoy to protect the Posidonia seagrass, for the clearest sightline west. Around the full moon, the moon rises in the east close to sunset, and you can watch one go down as the other comes up.

On the run home, La Seu is floodlit above Parc de la Mar. If watching the sun sink into open water matters most, ask about an evening on the west coast towards Sant Elm, where, depending on the season and the yacht's position, it sets over Sa Dragonera or the open sea beside it. A sailing catamaran gives the quietest passage and lets a large group spread out, a motor or sport yacht reaches farther anchorages before dark, and a superyacht adds a full crew and space to host. Prices are on request.

How the day runs
  1. 01

    Evening boarding

Your captain welcomes you at the marina in the late afternoon, shows you around the yacht and agrees the plan, based on the evening's wind and where the sun will set.

  2. 02

    Along the bay

Cruise along the coast with a drink in hand as the light softens. Leaving Palma, the route passes Bellver Castle, Cala Major and the islets of Illetes, while the cliffs and villas turn gold.

  3. 03

    Sunset at anchor

Anchor in a sheltered spot for a swim in the quiet evening water, then settle on deck as the sun goes down and the sky shifts from amber to rose.

  4. 04

    Lights of Palma

Head back under navigation lights as the shore comes alive; on the way into Palma, La Seu glows above the harbour. You step ashore at the time agreed in your charter.

FAQ

Questions Sunset cruise

/ 01How long is a sunset cruise?

Shorter than a day charter: usually a few hours across the late afternoon and evening, timed so you are at anchor as the sun goes down. The exact hours depend on the yacht and the date, and they are set out in your quote, with the price on request.

/ 02Where does the evening cruise depart from?

It depends on where the yacht is based: departures can be from Palma, Puerto Portals or Port Adriano. Your quote names the marina and the boarding point, and SERMAN RENT, part of the SERMAN group, can arrange a premium car for your stay.

/ 03Is it safe to come back after dark?

Yes. Every Serman Yacht Charter cruise runs with a professional captain, and the international collision regulations (COLREGs, Rule 20) require vessels to show their prescribed lights from sunset to sunrise. The route home is planned before you leave, and all decisions on weather and safety rest with the captain.

/ 04Can we swim during the cruise?

Weather permitting, yes. The captain anchors in a sheltered spot on sand or an authorised buoy, as Balearic Decree 25/2018 prohibits anchoring on Posidonia seagrass as a general rule, and you swim straight from the stern platform. In summer the sea breeze usually eases by evening, so the water is often calmer than in the afternoon.

/ 05Is a sunset charter a good setting for a proposal?

It is one of the most natural settings for one. Tell us in advance and we will help with the details discreetly, from flowers and champagne to a photographer and a quiet anchorage. For a larger party, see our celebration charters.
