Admiral builds custom superyachts in steel and aluminium on Italy's north-west coast, between Marina di Carrara and La Spezia, and is today a brand of The Italian Sea Group. The yard has long specialised in light-alloy construction, and its yachts are shaped in close collaboration with their owners. In profile the Admiral 44 reads as long and sleek: dark glazing runs the length of her hull and superstructure, and the stern sweeps down to the water in a single continuous curve. At 44 metres with an 8.7 metre beam, she carries real volume across her decks.

She is best understood as a private floating villa. Seven cabins and seven heads give a group of up to 12 guests genuine privacy, and a crew of six keeps the yacht running quietly around them. With a private cabin always close at hand, the group can share long hours on deck without anyone feeling short of space. On the upper deck, deep sofas and low tables sit on teak beneath broad parasols, with open views over the rail. Inside, a lacquered wood bar faced in dark leather sets a relaxed tone for the evenings.

Cruising at 22 knots, with 28 knots available at the top end, she makes longer passages practical. Built for extended cruising, she can spend a week taking in the national park of Cabrera, the cliffs of Cap de Formentor and, when the forecast allows, the crossing to Ibiza and Formentera, with nights at anchor or in port along the way. Your captain plans each day around the wind, choosing sheltered anchorages for swims and long meals on deck.
