A romantic yacht charter in Mallorca: proposals, anniversaries and honeymoons

How to plan a romantic yacht charter in Mallorca for two: choosing the yacht, timing the evening light, privacy on board, quiet anchorages, what to wear and how to prepare a proposal, an anniversary or a honeymoon at sea.

A romantic yacht charter in Mallorca comes down to two things: the light and the privacy. Choose a yacht sized for two rather than for a party, time the evening to the sunset on your date, and anchor somewhere quiet enough that the moment belongs to you. The same few decisions shape a proposal, an anniversary or a honeymoon at sea, and because every charter with Serman Yacht Charter runs with a professional captain, neither of you has to think about the boat.

Choosing a yacht for two

For a couple, smaller often feels more private. A sport yacht such as the Riva 52, at 15.84 metres, or a compact motor yacht such as the Sessa 40 Fly, at 12.6 metres, sails with a crew of one, so apart from your captain the deck is yours, with two cabins below for shade. For more distance from the crew, or a night aboard, the Sunseeker 76, a motor yacht of 23.6 metres with four cabins and a crew of three, is equally at home on a day out or an overnight escape. If the proposal leads into a party with family and friends, our two sailing catamarans take up to 45 and 65 guests on a wide, steady deck.

Timing the evening light

Many couples want the moment in the warm, low light just before sunset, and that light moves a long way through the season. Published tables for Palma show how far; for 2026 they give sunset:

  • At about 20:43 on 1 May and 21:10 on 31 May.
  • At about 21:20 from 21 June to the end of the month.
  • At about 20:20 on 1 September and 19:33 on 30 September.
  • At about 18:57 on 24 October, then at 17:56 the next evening, after the clocks go back on 25 October.

On those dates civil twilight, when the sky stays light after the sun has gone, lasts roughly half an hour. Check the time for your own date and work backwards, so that you reach the anchorage with the sun still well above the horizon and time for a swim. In summer the embat, the sea breeze, usually blows from mid-morning until dark and peaks after midday, so evenings tend to be gentler than afternoons. Our guide to sunset cruises in Palma Bay explains where the sun actually sets over the bay.

Privacy and a discreet crew

Privacy is the real luxury of a yacht for two. At Serman Yacht Charter, guest lists, plans and celebrations stay between you, your captain and us. For a proposal we plan with the person proposing alone, agree what the crew should know and send every update only to you. On board, the crew handles the table and the quiet cues, such as the glasses arriving on an agreed signal, and otherwise leaves you to the view. Privacy works both ways: etiquette guides note that crew areas are private unless you are invited, and that any concern is best taken to the captain, who is responsible for safety.

Quiet anchorages for a private moment

The anchorage sets the mood as much as the yacht. In the Bay of Palma, Portals Vells has narrow arms of the sea cut between rock and pine forest, each ending at a small beach and more sheltered than a beach facing open water, though they are quietest early in the day or outside high summer. At Cala Blava, yachts can tie up in a regulated buoy field. In the west, the Sant Elm buoy field faces Sa Dragonera, a natural park across a channel about 800 metres wide. On a longer charter, the park buoys of Cabrera allow a night aboard with prior authorisation, for up to two nights in July and August and seven in the rest of the year.

Rules shape every choice. Under Balearic Decree 25/2018, anchoring on Posidonia seagrass is prohibited as a general rule, so your captain anchors on sand or ties up to an authorised buoy. Spain's General Coastal Regulations also keep boats out of buoyed swimming zones; where none are marked, the swimming zone is a strip 200 metres wide off beaches and 50 metres elsewhere, with speed limited to three knots. The most private spot is rarely the one closest to the sand.

Planning a proposal at sea

Tell us about the proposal when you enquire. We agree a discreet plan with you: who knows, where the ring is kept until the moment and the cue for the crew. Choose the moment at anchor, on a steady deck away from the rail, and keep these details in mind:

  • Flowers, champagne or cava, a cake or a photographer are things to request when planning, so we can confirm what works aboard your yacht before the day.
  • Keep decoration on board: confetti, glitter and balloons blow overboard far too easily, and candles are at the captain's discretion.
  • If either of you is prone to seasickness, the NHS suggests looking at a fixed point such as the horizon, getting fresh air and avoiding heavy meals and alcohol while travelling, and a pharmacist can recommend a remedy. Save the toast for the anchorage.
  • Keep a second date in reserve. The captain decides on safety, and a calmer evening later in your stay takes the pressure off.

Anniversaries, vow renewals and honeymoons

An anniversary is often about the table: a long lunch at anchor, a menu built around your tastes. We can arrange catering and, on longer charters where the yacht allows, a chef guided by the preference sheet you complete in advance. A vow renewal or a symbolic ceremony on deck can be part of the day, but it is not a legal marriage. According to the Spanish government's citizen portal, a civil marriage in Spain first needs a file, an expediente or acta, showing that the couple may marry, and is then celebrated before an authorised person such as a notary, a court clerk, a mayor or a councillor. If you plan to marry, complete the formalities ashore and let the yacht be the celebration that follows; for your own situation, ask a notary or the civil registry.

For a honeymoon, a few nights aboard can sit inside a longer stay ashore, and some yachts accept charters of two or three nights, most easily outside July and August. Picture an evening at anchor, a night on a buoy, which Ports IB, the Balearic ports authority, offers as an overnight booking, and a swim before breakfast, long before the sea breeze builds. Through the SERMAN group we can arrange a premium car with SERMAN RENT and help with villa stays through SERMAN Properties. Our guide to choosing a day or week charter in Mallorca sets out the formats.

What to wear on a romantic evening aboard

Dress for the deck rather than the restaurant. Many yachts ask guests to go barefoot, and where shoes are allowed they should be soft-soled boat shoes, so leave heels ashore and choose an outfit that looks right without them. Linen suits the warm hours, and a wrap or a light knit earns its place on the run back to port after sunset. If you are proposing, a pocket that closes, or a ring handed to the crew in advance, removes one worry. Our packing guide covers the rest.

Planning your romantic charter with us

Send us your dates, the occasion and anything we should keep confidential by WhatsApp, email or the form. We will suggest the yacht, the boarding marina, such as Palma, Puerto Portals or Port Adriano depending on where the yacht is based, and the timing for your date, with a written quote and prices on request. If it is a surprise, say so in your first message, and we will plan it with you alone.
